As a group, we constantly strive to improve, evolve, and look forward by offering opportunities to our membership which will enhance their lives and their artistic careers.
Our long, storied history
The Palette & Brush Club has beginnings that go back to the depression era of 1934. A government agency offered art lessons in order to provide jobs for teachers. The first group met at Redford High School for evening classes. They gave two public shows in 1935. Bylaws and a constitution were adopted in 1936, followed by incorporation in 1949.
Now over 80 years old, the Palette and Brush Club includes members from all over metro Detroit. Two major exhibitions each year showcase members’ fine art at various locations providing visibility to interested audiences, buyers and opportunities for commission work. Fundraisers are held to underwrite scholarships for outstanding art students from area colleges to offer financial support and encouragement to promising young artists.
