Why join

The Palette and Brush Club is a friendly, supportive, longstanding Detroit-area art club. We work hard to offer a valuable experience to our members. Here are some compelling reasons to join:

Monthly meetings
Make new artist friends, network and learn from the expert presentations.

Monthly programs with distinguished artists
Every monthly meeting includes a presentation by a prominent national or local artist that is illuminating and inspiring. Sometimes demos, sometimes a discussion of their work, sometimes Q&A. You will generally have the chance to ask questions and engage with our presenters directly. They also jury our monthly work and discuss what appealed to them about the top artwork.

Monthly juries
At most meetings, we have a jury of member artwork. Our monthly juries are free to enter and a great chance to have your work seen by prominent artists. No monetary prizes, but winners get a beautiful hand-lettered certificate with calligraphy by Director of Awards, Rose Marie Starke. .

Mentors & Protégés
A critique group that meets in-person once a month on Monday mornings at 10:30am EST. You can bring a painting for feedback, or just hang out to critique, observe and learn. M&P is currently included with your membership and will continue year-round so long as there is interest.

Tuesday Tuneup
During the months that we meet, we have a virtual painting group twice a month on Tuesday mornings at 9:30am EST. We open with life drawing for a half hour. We have a suggested subject to paint, but you are also free to paint whatever you’d like. At the end of each meeting, we share and give feedback. Included with your membership and ongoing so long as there is interest. Tuesday Tuneup is on the second and third Tuesdays of the month. (Months we meet are September-November, skipping December, then January through May. We take the summers off, as many members are on vacation.)

Juried exhibitions twice a year at galleries:
We are trying to line up a venue for the fall; the pandemic has made it more complicated than usual. These shows are juried for entries. There’s a nominal entry fee to cover costs. We generally exhibit in the spring and in the fall, and our exhibits hang for a month. There is frequently an opening reception to increase sales opportunities, if the venue permits.

Online promotion:
We will link to your website from our Members page. If you don’t have a website, you can send us a few samples of your work, and we’ll create an online portfolio for you on this website.

The Palette and Brush Club believes in giving back to the art community. We have proudly sponsored student scholarships for years and make group donations to worthy art causes when finances permit.

Join us!
First visit is free. Membership fees are currently $45 the first year, $40 thereafter, payable every September. We are reasonable about pro-rating your membership if you join later in our calendar cycle. Send us an email if you’d like to join. We look forward to meeting you.
